Lately, Longfellow students have been hearing songs like “New Romantics” or “Counting Stars” playing over the loudspeaker in between classes.
The music stops when the one minute bell rings and starts after the bell to mark the end of the period.
“Active engagement with music can impact the way that the brain processes information,” according to the National Center on Safe and Supportive Learning Environments.
Playing music in the Longfellow hallways will potentially boost moods and could affect the learning in the next class.
Students have different opinions on the music. “The music choice is bad and cringy. I dont like the music and I would prefer it if it would stop,” said L.M., a seventh grader. “Yeah I think it is ok. I think music can help the students decompress after class,” fellow seventh grader C.K. said when interviewed.
Although not all students are on board with the new change, the music brings an element of positivity and helps with learning.
