Longfellow’s orchestra is a talented group of young musicians who work hard to share their music through concerts and other areas. They elected this class even though they knew they would have to be incredibly determined and hardworking to create a musical experience for their audience.
On December 5th our Orchestra performed for our school in a concert that many parents and students attended. If you want to see them perform you can find them on February 20th for their Pre-Assessment Concert or June 3rd for their spring concert.
Performing is a big part of being in an orchestra or any arts group. Eileen Z., who has played the cello for four years, says that performing is an exciting and fun aspect of orchestra but rehearsal is her favorite part.
“I think it’s fun, like the rehearsals are fun,” said Eileen.
Hudson H., who has played the viola for 4 years says that he likes to perform and his favorite part is being a part of the group and playing as one.
“In orchestra you have all these people around you and I feel like that’s just a much calmer, safer, environment to be in.”
Jacqueline Robertson is one of the hardworking orchestra teachers that we have here at Longfellow. She is one that enjoys concerts because “the students get to showcase everything they’ve been working on”.
Along with concerts there are competitions and collaborations. This spring, our orchestra has a competition at Kings Dominion where they will be performing concert music in competition with other schools.
This year we will see many types of music but mainly classical. Some composers include Handel and Bach along with the composition; Night at Bald Mountain, by Modest Mussorgsky.
Our Orchestra is a place for community and the joining of instruments to create music and we are proud of our Lancers
