With Halloween rising from the grave once again, it’s time to decide on a costume that will both impress and result in the most candy. You’ve come to the perfect place for a spark of creativity.
With the latest live-action Barbie movie being such a hit, it’s no wonder Barbie has stolen first place on the charts. Roller Skating Barbie tops the list for the 30 most popular costumes this year According to the website, The Every Girl. Add to that the fact that there are multiple Barbies, the possibilities are endless. Everyone is sure to find a Barbie that suits them, whether it’s Stereotypical Barbie, Weird Barbie, or President Barbie.
Alternatively, who needs Barbie when you could be Ken? Instyle, a fashion magazine, thinks. Mojo Dojo Ken would be the perfect eye-catching costume. If you could somehow get a horse that would make it even better!
Patricia Talmadge, who teaches tech theatre, suggests keeping an eye on what’s trending. To make the biggest splash with a current topic of interest, you need to know what’s happening in popular culture.
“I would say to get the best results, I would check what’s being sold the most,” explained Talmadge, whose class designs costumes for the Longfellow plays. She recommends seeing what is selling like hotcakes or which television shows are getting the most views. “I think whatever scary movie is popular with 7th and 8th graders would make a great costume.”
Ms. Talmadge has designed many costumes throughout her career and often comes across ideas that could be great for Halloween as well.
“We have a Violet Beauregard from Willy Wonka, that inflates to look like a giant blueberry, I think that one is fun,” she said. She also loved the bedazzled jacket they designed for Wonka himself. Talmadge also recommended characters from The Wizard of Oz and anything with fairy wings and glitter.
Another popular show is the current season of Bridgerton, which could be the perfect excuse to live your royal dreams.
Queen Charlotte is the main center of attention in the newest season and the costumes are eye-catching and opulent. I can almost guarantee whoever’s door you knock on, they’ll have to give you some candy.
Of course, mentions of Halloween costumes would be incomplete without mentioning the Addams Family. With the Netflix show Wednesday topping charts this year, Every Girl expects to see plenty of versions of Wednesday. And now fans have more options to choose from than her typical white collared dress. If you dress as Wednesday, make sure Thing doesn’t go around stealing everyone’s candy.
To design your own Halloween costume, you have to start somewhere, and that means digging for what could make a good contribution to your costume.
“I always go for something in my closet, something that I have that I can put together where I don’t have to spend too much money or time,” Talmadge suggested.
With Halloween around the corner and a Spirit Day to show off your ingenuity, we can’t wait to see what students come up with this year.
